Screening for depression and its' associated risk for suicide (the 10th leading cause of death in the US) in urgent and emergent care settings has proven to be valuable to providers and patients. In multiple studies including the most recent (Siwicki,2021), depression screening represents an opportunity to provide a service to a population that often does not seek care. Learning Objectives Depression screening can improve patient outcomes when coupled with treatment and follow-up. (Pignone et al 2009).
